Starkey Park is home to an official orienteering course. “Orienteering” is the sport of using a compass to navigate your way between checkpoints along an unfamiliar course. The entire course consists of fourteen permanent markers comprising three different routes with lengths of one, two, or three miles. Orienteering is a good family or group activity and is a good way to learn or teach compass reading skills.

We will be using a portion of the Starkey course for our “Orienteering Challenge”. There will be five stages where you will need to find clues at each stage. The final stage will contain a geocache with a token inside that you bring back to prove you completed the course. The time to complete the course will be variable, but should be several hours. Prizes will be awarded for completing the course.

What to bring? Participants should bring a GPS device and compass with degree markings.

What to wear?  Participants should wear casual hiking clothes.

Parners: Pasco GeoFest
