Sign-in for the Hiker’s Poker Run will open at 9:00am on Saturday, November 10th. You can arrive any time you like – registration will remain open for the remainder of the day.
You must be a registered entrant to turn in a hand and claim a prize.
The event will close at 4:30pm. Prizes will be awarded at 5:00pm.
A series of new geocaches will be placed along a hiking trail in the J.B. Starkey Wilderness Park. Some light bushwhacking may be required. Each geocache will have unique items inside that you will retrieve to prove you were there (please take only one item per cache). Each poker run cache will also contain a log to sign, and can be logged as a find at geocaching.com. Upon return to base camp at the shelter in the tent camping area you will receive one playing card for each item you retrieved from the caches. If you find more than 5 caches (and thus have more than 5 playing cards), you must select the 5 cards that make the best poker hand.
The holder of the best poker hand will get to select any prize they like from the Hiker’s Poker Run prize table. Then the second place finisher will take their pick, and so on until there are no more prizes or contestants. In the event of a tie, the extra cards held by each contestant will be considered to break the tie. The list or number of prizes is not yet known … but if we find out ahead of time, the list will be posted.
Note: Any person or team with a geocaching ID (handle) is eligible to enter this event.
What to bring: GPS device, water, bug repellent.
What to wear: Casual hiking clothes and good shoes for walking.
